January 27th

I alllllmost forgot to take today's photo of gratitude. But at 11:52pm, I remembered. So I took a photo of me covered up in my fuzzy blanket here in the living room. I'm thankful for the fuzzy blanket I use evvvvery night --- and I'm also thankful I remembered to take the photo!

January 26th

I'm all about the healthy cooking right now. And I'm so GRATEFUL that my heart is turning my creativity toward my cooking right now. Because it makes healthy eating so much more fun and delicious. This was last night's recipe of brown rice pasta in a Coconut Milk, sweet potato, spinach, sundried tomato, chickpea, lemon and ginger pasta. Incredible flavor that made us happy here in our little household. 

January 25th

Cold day - warm sun. Movie and dinner date night to see "Saving Mr. Banks" (Hence the dolled up version of moi below).  The quiet of January continues. And while I wouldn't say it'sy faaaaavorite time of year right now, it's cozy, calm and contemplative.  I think you can see that in my face. 

January 24th

Birthday Party for two fantastically fabulous women tonight - then dancing!  This 39 year old felt 29 again!  Almost. Except for the arthritis. 

January 23rd

Almond butter and honey sandwich with a side of oranges for lunch. It really is the little things. 

January 22nd

Grateful for our Saint of a housekeeper who came today and made our house look like its inhabited by respectable people again.

Grateful for millions of happy scarves from which to choose, when running mundane errands in 28 degree weather.

Grateful for sunny days in winter and dogs who like to Carpe Diem.

Grateful for sunny, cold days. Friends who like to go see silly movies with me. And dogs who like to sit quietly with my on the front porch in the cold air and watch the day unfold.

January Sunshine

We got these today from sweet, sweet Grandpa Higgins. They're amazingly juicy and delicious and I'm so grateful to have such a thoughtful grandpa that I got when I married my husband.

Window Ivy

We are helping my aunt upgrade her technology and I took this photo at her house today. She has these beautiful windows facing the front yard that are covered with these vines of Ivy. I was mesmerized by how it looked against the windows from the inside today. 

So many strange little lovely things to notice every day. 

The Sun King

I took this photo yesterday - but forgot to post it. Probably because I was so overcome with how awesome it was to see the sun again!

Gray Day

I'm grateful for the gray days. Because they make me appreciate those gorgeous sunny days all the more. 

Plus, sometimes the gray days give us permission to tuck into a bowl of soup and do a little hibernation.

It's been a cooking kind of week. And that's made me feel good. 

17 Degrees

A comforting, delicious, warm meal on the stove when it's 17 degrees outside is a wonderful thing.

Cozy

It's 7 degrees in Atlanta tonight. No "Hotlanta" to be found. So I took a hot shower and cozied up in my new fluffy, terry cloth robe with a glass of water (post workout), and cup of cocoa. Oh gratitude.  Thou art grand in your simplicity tonight. 

Healthy Comfort

Oh my goodness. I am so grateful for this simple, comforting meal tonight of healthy Spaghetti Bolognese while watching Downton Abby Season Premier. Snow predicted tonight, so it was a perfect dish with which to curl up on the couch.

So grateful for a group of beautiful women who can bring such insight to my life on a cold, January night. 

Christmas Tree Carnage

Always a little sad taking down the tree and Christmas decor every year. But the house looks so light and bright when it's all done and dusted.  

Took the dogs on a walk and Rocky wanted to sniff around the tree afterward. I assume he was contemplating dragging it away and making a nice feast from its limbs. 

My Closet Got An Enema

Oh the joy. The absolute wonder. Of the de-cluttered closet. You can't hear it but there were angels singing when I took this photo of one of the two downstairs closets I cleaned out today. 

Day One

365 Days of Gratitude and Weirdness is my attempt to take a photo every day, for an entire year, recording the little things that create happiness in a life. So often, we let these little moments slip by, until they are added to a sea of other forgotten moments --- so much beauty and humor in the seemingly mundane are, thus, lost.

The first moment for this year, taken on January 1st, 2014, is our dog, Charlie, taking a New Years Day snooze with me on this gray, quiet day. He nosed his way into the guest bedroom where I had just settled into and shut my eyes, and then hopped up on the bed and curled into this position. The room was instantly even calmer, with his quiet breathing and warm fur by my feet.
